0333. Ellen Maria Meader (1841 – 1930)

Ellen Maria Meader, daughter of Burton Hathaway Meader (1805-1879) [0197] and Mary Chapin (1812-1846), was born in Easton, NY in 1841 and died, probably near Sterling, IL, in 1930. She married John Henry Vandenburgh, born in 1835 and died in 1905, who was born at the old Vandenburgh farm north of North Easton. He was a Civil War veteran. After the War the family moved to Illinois, where John Vandenburgh was Station Agent for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. The couple were buried in Sterling, IL.

The children of Ellen Meader and John Vandenburgh were:
i. Edward Clinton Vandenburgh, born in 1859 and died in 1936. He attended Northern Illinois' College, Fulton. He was Station Agent for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad at Audubon, and later at Kingsley, IA. He married Kate E. Feltus, born in 1860 and died in 1920. After her death he married Anne Jacobsen. He and his first wife were buried in Sterling. They had one child.
ii. Burton Hathaway Vandenburgh, born in 1868 and died in 1942. He was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. He was injured in an accident and finally moved to Los Angeles, where he engaged in the real estate business and other financial investments. He married Eleanor Hopkins, born in 1870 and died in 1953. They had two children.
iii. George St. John Vandenburgh, born in 1872 and died in 1873.
